Barcelona are tracking Manchester United wonderkid Angel Gomes

Manchester United v Huddersfield Town - Premier League

Portuguese newspaper A Bola recently penned an interesting piece on Angel Gomes’ situation at Manchester United.

Gomes is considered to be one of the brightest young players at Old Trafford but he failed to establish himself in the first team this season, making just two Premier League appearances.

The cause of the issue appears to be his relationship with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer is said to have upset Gomes, 18, by suggesting he is “physically more fragile than would be desirable”.

A Bola’s report also says Gomes wants to develop as a player and appearances for Man United’s Under-23s are not helping him.

The midfielder felt he deserved more chances in the senior team this season, and is now considering his future.

Gomes, the youngest-ever recipient of the Jimmy Murphy Player of the Year award, has generated interest from clubs across Europe.

And among the clubs keeping an eye on his situation is Barcelona.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Spanish giants are tracking Gomes as the final year of his Man United contract approaches.

His deal runs out in 2020 and, if he believes first team opportunities will remain limited, he’s unlikely to be interested in signing an extension.

And the chance to play for Barcelona is one that few players will turn down.

Gomes is expected to travel to Australasia for Man United’s pre-season tour.

But when Solskjaer named some of the youngsters that will play in the Europa League next season, he left out Gomes.

“Sometimes you can use Europa League as something positive," Solskjaer said, per the Mirror.

"As Chelsea and Arsenal have done this year and as we did a couple of years ago when we won the Europa League.

"So you talk about smiling, I'm an optimist by nature, so you will make the most of it, is it giving players like Chongy, Mason Greenwood, James Garner game time?

“We have to make something positive out of it, no matter what."
