Drew McIntyre has called out Celtic captain Scott Brown for a wrestling match

Fresh off the back of their two-week European tour, WWE will host their first pay-per-view since WrestleMania 35 when Money In The Bank rolls into Hartford, Connecticut.

The main event will see eight male superstars compete for the coveted titular briefcase, where a shot at either the WWE Championship or Universal Championship will be waiting.

The bookmakers favourite for the match is Drew McIntyre, and out of everyone in the bout he's probably the most deserving of a world title opportunity.

The recent tour of Europe was a chance for McIntyre to return to his native land though, and whilst there he answered some questions for talkSPORT, and when asked what footballer he would like to take on inside the ring, the Rangers fan only had one obvious answer.

"If I could face one football player in the ring, who would it be? Scott Brown, who else is it going to be?" said McIntyre.

"Aside from the fact he plays for my rivals obviously, he's a wind-up merchant and he's very good at it.

Drew McIntyre has called out Scott Brown for a wrestling match - and Brown has responded

"I'd love to do a bit of trash talking with Scott Brown because he's clearly good at it, and once it gets to the peak and once he riles me up like he always does because he's a master at riling people up, then I'll Claymore Kick him and drop him. Sorry Scott, I'm calling you out mate!"

Seemingly Brown has caught wind of McIntyre's request for a fight, but he hasn't gone as far as accepting it, instead requesting McIntyre to bring talkSPORT host Adrian Durham with him to fight.

WWE are no stranger to promoting footballing figures when they broadcast from the UK.

We saw Wayne Rooney get physical on Monday Night Raw a few years back with Wade Barrett when WWE came to Manchester which received a rousing ovation.

Jose Mourinho was also rollocked by Shane McMahon back in 2007 whilst he was in the crowd during an episode of Raw, and going even further back Vinnie Jones got physical with Big Boss Man at WWF Capitol Carnage 1998.

Monday Night Raw will be in Glasgow in November 2019... never say never to an appearance from Mr Brown.
