Lionel Messi fan's perfect response to video of missing chances vs Real Madrid

FBL-ESP-LIGA-BARCELONA-REALMADRID

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi is the highest goalscorer in the history of El Clasico.

The Argentine announced himself to the world with a stunning hat-trick against Real Madrid in 2007 and has found the back of the net against Barca's eternal rivals another 23 times since.

That long list of strikes include a hat-trick in the Spanish capital, celebrating a last-minute winner at the Bernabeu by displaying his shirt and scoring twice in a Champions League semi-final.

So, it would be pretty nonsensical to say that Messi has been anything short of phenomenal in the biggest of games for Barcelona and, yes, that should include most Cristiano Ronaldo fans.

Real Madrid's all-time record goalscorer has an impressive record in El Clasico, too, but it goes without saying that 18 strikes in 30 games doesn't quite compare to Messi's statistics.

Messi and Ronaldo in El Clasico

The Portuguese might have silenced Camp Nou with a superb performance in 2012, but the fact of the matter is that Messi beats him for victories, assists and goals across the board.

It's nothing to do with the fact Messi has played in more El Clasico matches, either; averaging a goal contribution every 86 minutes as opposed to Ronaldo's ratio of one every 133 minutes.

However, try telling those statistics to Twitter user @footbalI_HQ who caused a stir on social media this week by creating a compilation of Messi's most high-profile misses against Real Madrid.

Messi's missed chances vs Real Madrid

The caption reads: "The amount of clear cut chances that Messi's teammates create for him in games vs Real Madrid are not normal. How many of these is Ronaldo scoring with his eyes closed?

"Clear as day that Messi is only in the right system, in the right team and in the right league."

In fairness, there are some pretty uncharacteristic miscues from the six-time Ballon d'Or winner - though we have some notes, bear with us - and you can check out the full video down below:

Messi fan fires back

However... the tweet has somewhat backfired with a top comment from @tiniademaj also surpassing 1,000 'likes' for including a video that shows Ronaldo's biggest El Clasico misses.

The video makes a mockery of claims that Ronaldo would have finished those Messi chances with his 'eyes closed' by showing the Portuguese bungling very similar opportunities.

Check it out down below:

No player is perfect

The moral of the story? Even the best players in the world don't score every single opportunity they're given.

Even though we're thankful for the original tweeter's admittedly amusing compilation, they should have expected somebody to highlight the fact that Ronaldo doesn't score every time either.

Sure, they might not have anticipated an entire rival video to pop up in their mentions, but let it serve as evidence that even Messi and Ronaldo can't do what they do with their eyes closed.

Real Madrid v Barcelona - La Liga

That, and the fact scoring in El Clasico is darn tough.
