Celtic target expected to leave on loan this summer

Ryan Sessegnon

Celtic have bounced back tremendously in recent weeks.

A rocky period where they had two games postponed was followed by a Champions League exit.

On top of that, they'd fallen six points behind Rangers in the race to win the Scottish Premiership.

However, back to back thrashings have followed where the Hoops scored eight unanswered goals against Motherwell and Ross County.

They were statement wins for Celtic who showed they certainly aren't here to mess around.

Of course, if Neil Lennon's side win the title this year, it will mark ten league crowns in a row.

It has been a one-way street in terms of the SPFL but finally, it looks as though we've got a heated race on our hands. Celtic could still improve too.

Last month, reports emerged that Celtic wanted to sign Ryan Sessegnon from Tottenham on loan.

The youngster moved from Fulham in a £25m deal last summer but has found life tough in London.

Thus, it was thought he could move for a temporary spell elsewhere.

That rumour had gone quiet for a few weeks but now a fresh update has emerged.

With Spurs on the verge of signing Real Madrid full-back Sergio Reguilon, it's expected that Sessegnon will be granted a loan exit.

That's according to Sami Mokbel from The Daily Mail who reported on Tuesday evening that Spurs have already had various enquiries.

Celtic have already been linked with a plethora of full-backs this summer but this could be their best chance yet to secure a left-sided player.

This could kill two birds with one stone.

Firstly, Celtic are in desperate need of another left-back. Boli Bolingoli's quarantine saga means he looks set to depart Parkhead, which means they'd be left with just Greg Taylor to play in that position.

On top of that, they're having difficulties in getting a deal for Charlton's Alfie Doughty over the line.

The versatile defender has been the subject of intense interest from the Hoops who have had two offers rejected for his services.

Doughty's contract expires next summer and it's thought that Nick Hammond won't be held to ransom over a move for the 20-year-old.

Thus, while they wait to swoop on a free transfer, a loan move for Sessegnon would be absolutely ideal.

The Spurs man can play on the left-wing too, something which has drawn comparisons to a certain Gareth Bale.

Speaking about that claim in January, Sessegnon said: "[Bale] was one of the players that I looked up to when I was younger, especially when he was at Southampton bombing up on the wing. He has attributes that I want to add to my game."

He hasn't been able to achieve that at Tottenham quite yet, but Celtic would be an ideal place to grow his game and most importantly, earn regular minutes.
