Gareth Bale to Spurs: Jonathan Barnett provides two-word update on his future

Gareth Bale

Last weekend was a period to forget for Tottenham.

This summer, the club showed that you didn't necessarily have to spend a great deal in the market. However, after suffering defeat against Everton, that was quashed.

After that loss, the penny seems to have dropped with Daniel Levy and the higher-ups at Spurs.

That's because they're on the verge of completing two signings at great expense.

Levy had so far spent a combined £27m on both Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty, but their next addition is set to cost around a similar marker.

According to Fabrizio Romano, a deal is as good as done for Real Madrid full-back Sergio Reguilon.

He is one of the hottest young left-backs in world football at the moment after reaching the Europa League final last season, and a Premier League move would be richly deserved.

However, our attention, for the time being, is on another player at Spurs - Gareth Bale.

The Welshman was linked with a loan move towards the beginning of the window and because of how often he's been touted with returning to Tottenham, we didn't particularly believe it.

Yet, in the last few days, a move to bring the frightening attacker back to north London looks to be materialising.

The BBC reported on Wednesday that he was now on the verge of agreeing a return to Tottenham with his agent, Jonathan Barnett, saying that talks were 'slowly progressing.'

His latest update on the possible move should fill supporters with glee.

In quotes relayed by Dan Kilpatrick on Twitter, Barnett suggested that a deal was now "very close".

The hope is that Bale will fly to London once everything is agreed. Tottenham will loan the player for a year and pay half of his wages.
